The Coffee Haus is a hit among University of Texas students. On most days, The Coffee Haus is filled with studying UT students. Located in the heart of UT’s West Campus neighborhood, the coffee shop’s convenience and low capacity attracts students.
The small size of the coffee house allows for a quieter, more intimate environment. The Coffee Haus, formerly Saxbys Coffee, serves as an alternative study spot for those who don’t want deal with the hustle and bustle of more crowded coffee shops. Wi-Fi is also complimentary. The hours aren’t as great as competing coffee shops, but that doesn’t stop patrons from regularly returning.
UT student Ryan Ortez said he comes to The Coffee Haus almost everyday to study. “I like this place because it’s close and has cheaper coffee than Starbucks,” Ortez said.
The Coffee Haus includes a wide range of lattes on their menu. I ordered the Campfire Latte, made with marshmallows and mocha. The price was indeed better than comparable drinks at other coffee shops. I’m not a big coffee drinker, but the latte tasted really good. The flavors definitely didn’t fall victim to the cheaper price. I also ordered a cup of wild raspberry herbal tea. The tea selection wasn’t great. You choose from a box of teas, but several of the tea varieties were sold out.
In addition to the drinks, I treated myself to a cinnamon raisin bagel loaf. It tasted like an ordinary cinnamon raisin bagel, nothing too special. Other food items available include bagels, muffins, nutrition bars, and nuts. Paninis are also popular lunch orders, barista Daphne Pawl said.
The Coffee Haus doesn’t have as distinct of an atmosphere as other Austin coffee houses. But for college students who value convenience and cheap, tasty menu items, this is the place to go.
